Hi! I am Charles. I saw the following posting by Yum DM on the X platform. "Come join the fun!" he said. So, I decided to take him up on the offer.

My hobby gaming interest is play by mail gaming. So, not the RPG thing that this forum is geared to, but I figured that I could browse, if nothing else. Who knows? I might even learn something.

I hail from South Carolina, USA. I'm 61 years old. I'm also munching on some pretzels, as I type this posting. They're fairly salty and very crunchy. You probably don't care, but they're the Walmart brand (the straight ones). We get this brand, because they tend to have more salt on them that other brands that I've tried, which are carried local to us.

I named this thread as I did, so that it could be used by all who come after me (if they wish). Feel free to move this thread to another section, if needed.

Someone else suggested we could have a Play-by-Mail topic on this forum, so maybe you can find a place to dwell. I will create one and see if it gets used. It would be great to get your insight on it as it is something I have been meaning to try, but never really have.

I'm Cuppa, from North Wales UK.
Been gaming since the late 80s/early 90s with Warhammer, Fighting Fantasy and Endless Quest books.
Got back into gaming, after a very long hiatus, in (about) 2012.
I primarily play solo gaming. Mainly OD&D, BX and Fighting Fantasy: the introductory roleplaying game (the book with the tiger-man breaking out of a d6!). But, I also like finding the (sort of) lesser known games and settings like HârnWorld, DCC, indie d100 systems (hack100, Maelstrom, CoC).
I've started journaling my games with Illustrated Journaling, which has been lots of fun to do!
Recently, I joined a discord to actually play with other people. We've tried lots of fun systems from Shadowdark, Dragonbane, Troika!, DCC, MCC, White Box, Alien, Walking Dead, Fallout 2d20, Warhammer Fantasy and probably more. We'll be starting a BX campaign soon, as well as looking into older systems like Paladium and Traveller.

cupofsolo Nice to read someone else who played the FF role-playing game (with the weirdly human-faced tiger on the cover). Was that the same thing as Out of the Pit? Different covers and names, so I suppose not. These are very old memories.

Started with 81 Basic, moved over to a hybrid of B/X and 1e. Also played many other games since - with Call of Cthulhu and Traveller being the most played after D&D.

I have run, played or owned too many games to list, although these days I do favour more modern light weight games.

Enjoy Middle Earth, Glorantha, Tekumel, Jorune and Harn as detailed settings - but I subscribe to Greg's "YGMV" vibe

PlayByMail If Alex the Mapmaker joins, perhaps he will share some of his illustrations. I used to play OSE with him and he would show us the excellent illustrations that he had created from the session's adventures (some of which have appeared in Russ' d12 zine). It might be a bit rude to volunteer someone else's work: sorry if that's the case.

Hey, I'm Keith. I live in Huntsville, Alabama, USA.
I started playing over winter break 1977-78 from an insane DM who taught me everything I know.
My original "rules" set was a whacky mashup of Greyhawk Supplement I, Metamorphosis Alpha and the 1E Monster Manual. Basically, I made Starship Warden my campaign setting.

Even when my players transitioned to the 1E books, I still DMed in a very old school manner, with zany dungeons and lots of science fantasy elements.

I have a ton of hobbies, among them creative writing. I just sold a short story, in fact.
To pay the bills, I work for a small, private space exploration firm.

My true love (besides my gorgeous wife and kids, of course) is my local pub, one mile from my house. I like dark beers and one type of IPA.

Weather. Have been playing since around 2013 and started with few original systems as opposed to commercial ones.
2010s were a boom of such and at that time we didn't really have much of translated playbooks in Poland.
I've finished my own system recently, Malediction which can be found in pinned link on my account for anyone interested (shamelss plug, I know).
I love the lowest of fantasy, folksy superstitions and gritiness in my games.
My pfp come from on of the units in the "Disciples 2: rise of the elves" which is a pinnacle of dark fantasy art to me, shaping my tastes in aesthetics and music forever so please check it out if you enjoy older games.
Also love Thief trilogy, Fear & Hunger games, Castlevania series and most things From Software.

Weather_M_S I have written my own system, which I call Human Remains: post-apocalyptic fun influenced a lot by OSE and a smidge of Call of Cthulhu. What stage of development are you at, if I may ask? Have you done much play-testing? I will give your game a look, if that's okay. Please let me know if you'd like a peek at my system. I'd describe it as rules-comprehensive: generally bleak in tone, and influenced by a variety of survival-based video games, novels and comics as well as TTRPGs: it could do with a thorough edit, I imagine. And some proper art.

Hello all, I'm Wolf. I'm in my mid-thirties, I'm almost-married, and I have one child and another on the way. I have been playing TTRPGs in earnest since 2020. Previously, I had only encountered TTs through a few sessions at a friend's house in high school playing D&D 4e. It never went anywhere, but my interest in playing never died. Fast-forward to COVID, I suddenly had a bunch of time on my hands. I watched a video of another RPG creator praising Basic Fantasy RPG (2e, I believe at the time of recording) as being a great clone of the B/X set he played as a kid and praised the fact it was all available for free online. Free is always up my alley, haha. So I checked out the website and that was it - I was hooked. After reading the rulebook a few times I wrangled my then five year old son into playing the Morgansfort campaign. There was a lot to learn and it was a steep curve, but here we are 5 years later still playing regularly, with my fiancee now included. I have also played in a BFRPG channel on Discord, but that's been a while. I have been getting into solo and GM-less play a lot more recently, mainly using the Solo RPG GME by Wilona's Cave. So, yeah - just a newish GM here to meet folks and learn some stuff.

WolfofXP I bought that solo-play system recently, and even got some tarot cards to facilitate my use of it. However, I find that I bounce off solo-play when I do give it a try. The Wilona's Cave system has given me a handy, random means for creating encounters and NPCs though, which I am using to prepare for my trad group TTRPG sessions.

Hello Everyone,

I have quite a lot of hours in RPGs, starting with B/X D&D then into AD&D for a while, and then a long journey into home-brew games of all genres, and then back to D&D in 2e for a while and then a lot of time with 3/3.5. I tried a bit of 4e, but fell out of things.

I've kept up a bit with RPGs, but haven't played much in the last decade. In any case--I still enjoy discussing and potentially playing some old-school fantasy games at some point.

KAM Hey KAM. Thanks for joining! I didn't realise you weren't actively gaming currently. Have you tried solo roleplaying at all? I know it's not for everyone.

Russ-Admin I've purchased and have read a lot of 'The One Ring' game by Free League Publishing, and I understand there is a solo mode for that. I was thinking about trying that out.

I've seen your first video on your Caves of Conflict Solo Play, and that looked pretty interesting.

Oddly enough, I was just toying around with GROK on Twitter playing an "RPG"--not exactly a real game experience, but amusing to some degree.
