I played a quick session of my D&D 3.0e solo campaign today and the PCs encountered a couple of lizardfolk scouts on a giant lizard. Xain, the wizard, spoke Draconic, so they convinced them they were no threat and left on good terms. I did notice that Lizardfolk don't have darkvision so I made up a natural light source for them.

Glowglobes

These bioluminescent algae lamps are translucent, hollow orbs made from durable polished shells of a native cavern-dwelling crustacean, filled with a thick gel containing bioluminescent algae. These algae, harvested from underground rivers and lakes, emit a soft, steady blue-green light when exposed to oxygen.

Usage
Lizardfolk patrolling caverns carry glowglobes in specially crafted net slings or attach them to poles for hands-free illumination. The algae glow brighter when gently agitated, providing an easy way to increase light intensity.

Sustainability
To maintain their glowglobes, lizardfolk feed the algae with tiny scraps of organic material or fish oil and refresh the water within the globe every few days. They can last forever if looked after in these ways. Otherwise, they last D4 days.

The soft glow doesn’t spook aquatic creatures, as it mimics the natural luminescence of underwater flora and fauna. The light’s color blends into the dark, watery environment, making it harder for predators or enemies to detect. This means that the light doesn’t give away the lizardfolk’s position.

Glowglobes can float in water, allowing lizardfolk to tether them to fishing nets, traps, or patrol boats.

In some lizardfolk cultures, the Glowglobe is also a symbol of community and survival, representing the light that guides them through the dark and dangerous depths.
