Hello all. I am Pete. I live in Melbourne, and am a foolishly enthusiastic returnee to TTRPGs. I got introduced to them in the late 70s or early 80s with the 1e Monster Manual and The Tomb of Horrors, started reading Fighting Fantasy and Endless Quest books, and then moved on to Mentzer D&D, AD&D 1e, Warhammer, call of Cthulhu, Golden Heroes, Paranoia. I never had enough like-minded pals to do more than imagine how cool it'd be to actually play them. I quit when being a teenager and trying to meet girls became a more compelling focus.
I started playing again around a decade ago after moving from the West Country in the UK to Melbourne, Australia: I started with 4e and then briefly played a few sessions of 5e, but never really found a suitable group to stick with. Luckily, I got exposed to OSE and the OSR more generally, and I have been waist-deep in the hobby ever since.
I DM OSE twice a week, and I relish sessions when a player is away and we can give another system a try. I have tried running Mothership, Mork Borg/Pirate Borg and my own post-apocalyptic TTRPG, Human Remains. I'd love to play more of them as well as Cloud Empress, Mausritter, Musketeers vs Cthulhu, Vaesen and others.
I enjoy low-prep DMing and improvising: when I can tie all of that, published adventures and player-input altogether, it feels a bit magical. I've been a teacher for almost thirty years, which gives me the confidence to not feel the need to have everything nailed down before we play. I do love TTRPGs a lot: they are my main source of creativity and socialising nowadays.
