Introduce Yourself Here

ralhara

Hi, I'm Raphael from Brazil. I'm currently playing CofC and I have played 3.5 and 5ed, but now I'm interested in old school and I want to convince my players to play it. If I can't convince my players to join, since I'm usually the DM, I might try solo play. I saw Yum DM post on the X platform.

Welcome to the forum, as well as to Russ's ever growing multimedia empire in general! 👋

Russ-Admin

ralhara Hey Raphael! Nice to have you here. Good luck with your players. If you do try solo then you are in good company here. Also, have a look at my solo posts on my blog.

Russ-Admin

David-S Haha... Old school empire! 🙂

AlexTheMapMaker

Hi, I'm your friendly mapmaker, and artist for all things fantasy. I love drawing maps and character portraits. You may have seen some of my work in D12?
I play a wide variety of RPG's, but 5e is off the table as there are far too many other, better systems out there. I prefer indie RPGs over the big guns in the industry.
I started gaming in 1983ish and joined Russ in gaming off and on around 1986ish and full time in the late part of the 80s and never stopped.

That's awesome. As a DM it's always great to have those life long players. 4 of my current players have been with me for between 20 to 28 years and another 2 have been with me for over 7 years. The newest guy just started at the beginning of this year, so he has some catching up to do lol.

DungeoneeringDad

Howdy. Started in the 1980s with a hodge podge of AD&D and Basic D&D (we used whatever we got our hands on). Fan of D&D in any form, but my game of choice is Castles & Crusades.

I have a blog where I try to post cool stuff: The Dungeoneering Dad

DungeoneeringDad Welcome to the party 👋

DungeoneeringDad You are more than welcome here, DD. And thanks heaps for the mention on your blog. I will definitely have a look around.

MrWorry

DungeoneeringDad I've never played or even read Castles and Crusades: I believe it is a Gary Gygax system? Maybe I'm wrong. What is it about it that you like so much (if you'd like to explain)?

adam

thesnoman I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US. I played D&D back in the early to mid 80's when I was in Jr High.

I lived in the Northwest (northern ID) and was playing D&D at the same time. High five!

AlHazred

Hello! I'm a longtime gamer, who got started with an unholy mishmash of Moldvay Basic/Advanced D&D 1st edition/some stuff my DM picked up when visiting relatives in California. We rapidly graduated to Champions, Traveller, RuneQuest, and others, and it's been a fun ride since then.

For years I ran a bunch at conventions (as RPG Director, and Adventurers League Local Coordinator for my region) and at the Friendly Local Game Store (running the D&D Encounters program). Since the lockdown and the subsequent birth of my daughter, I've basically been reduced to running a single campaign -- a Classic Traveller campaign using Hero System 6th edition.

I have backed all of the Old School Essentials Kickstaarters, and love a certain corner of the Old School community. Hoping that corner's legacy is carried on here!

AlHazred Welcome to the party 🎉

AlHazred A BIG welcome!

It's great to see you have played some of the classics. And Traveller is just awesome. You will have friends here, like @MrWorry

MrWorry

Hello, AlHazred. Russ is right: I am currently very focussed on sci-fi TTRPGs and I am also quite friendly (I hope). My current sci-fi TTRPG preferred flavour is Zozer Games' Hostile, whose setting is a much grittier setting reminiscent of the Alien series, Outland, Event Horizon, The Thing, Red Dwarf etc. than the more shiny and intelligent-alien-infested Traveller universe. It's like Mothership but with the Cepheus Engine and an incredibly fleshed-out setting.
I do have a copy of the Classic Traveller rules, and I am keen to give that try in the future to enjoy the contrast between the two games and their settings.
I managed to convince my Sunday arvo group to try out Hostile in a few weeks after we have finished up our mini-campaign of Ronin. Great! They want space marines and mystery/investigation, which I think I can manage: spot something, shoot something.
I am not much of solo gamer yet, but something about the setting and solo rules seem to be really clicking for me. I just took a break from my first session to come and enthuse about my experience so far. Back to it: this resource survey crew won't lead themselves into peril and horror on their own.

MrWorry

alienspaces Nice: another person in Melbourne. Can I ask your suburb? (I'm in Malvern East)

MrWorry

MrWorry To follow up, I played Hostile: it has an amazingly wide range of sourcebooks, but the rules didn't seem to set the table alight. So, I have replaced most of the rules with those of CY Borg and Death in Space. I'm looking forward to GMing it next week.
